Death Penalty CANARD!
I’m a former medic in the Mass. Dept of Corrections, and I can tell you, Capital punishment is NOT more expensive. The “expense” we hear about is the cost of all the appeals, but this argument misses an important reality:
Just because someone gets life instead of cap punishment DOES NOT MEAN that the inmate in question DOES NOT FILE APPEALS. It often simply means there is a lifetime of appeals.
When I worked at Walpole, there was no death penalty, but there nonetheless was a regular conveyor belt of lawyers working on filing and refiling appeals and new appeals.
